The Tweed Area

The Tweed is a beautiful destination on the far NSW North Coast, with uncrowded beaches, world-class surf breaks, the splendid Tweed River, UNESCO World Heritage rainforest and more. You'll discover memorable outdoor adventures, vibrant cultural experiences and delicious places to eat.

There are charming seaside towns and picturesque hinterland villages in a green caldera, the vast crater of the extinct Tweed Volcano now covered in rainforest and farmland. A volcanic peak called Wollumbin by Aboriginal people and Mount Warning by Captain James Cook is a striking feature.

Tweed Heads is the main seaside town, nicknamed the Twin City because of neighbouring Coolangatta. You'll find a fun range of things to do, from rainforest river cruises and houseboat holidays to deep-sea fishing charters and whale watching or simply relax on gorgeous beaches.
